She also performed for U.S. servicemen overseas. From 1987 to 1989 she performed in the sitcom She's the Sheriff which ran in first-run syndication. In 1990, she returned to network television appearing in numerous guest roles and making for TV. A year later, she started in the TV series in the sitcom Step by Step which became a success on ABC's youth-oriented TGIF lineup. In April 2000, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a lumpectomy to remove the cancer followed by radiation therapy.Somers died at her home in Palms Springs, it was a day before her 77th birthday and that was on October 15, 2023. Two years before she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus but she was never given a shunt. She was buried 3 days after her death, with her interment at Desert Memorial Park.
